Jo joined Flint Bishop in 1996; she trained as a Paralegal with the National Association of Paralegals and qualified as a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Legal Executives in June 2007 with an interest in debt collection and landlord and tenant law.
Jo has a particular specialism in respect of the licensed trade industry, dealing with debt collection for pub companies and advising clients in this sector on all aspects of credit control and debt recovery. Jo provides excellent advice to her clients on a commercial and cost effective basis, keeping in mind the business goals and objectives. Jo provides advice and training in order to enhance the performance of her clients’ own staff, thereby increasing efficiency and knowledge of their business and reducing the need for legal action.
Due to Jo’s detailed knowledge of the industry, the work carried out by Jo for licensed trade clients is extremely varied and also includes litigation matters such as lease forfeiture, contractual disputes, property matters such as subletting, new leases and assignments and surrenders, together with compliance issues such as breach of tie, access and gaming machines. Jo often deals with injunctions in the High Court to prevent a breach of lease covenants by tenants and has a 100% success rate of securing injunctions of this nature together with recovery of associated costs.
Jo has hosted numerous debt collection seminars and training workshops for credit controllers, plus written a number of articles on landlord and tenant law and developments which have been featured in the local press. Jo has successfully managed the Marston’s PLC tenant default and debt recovery work for several years and has both cemented and improved the relationship with Marston’s PLC’s credit control department.
In addition to debt collection, Jo advises on commercial and residential repossession issues, tenant default and insolvency matters and is often praised by clients for her commercial awareness and objectives-based approach.
